Can you see yourself working in hospitals, clinics, laboratories or other medical facilities? Our 8 week Phlebotomy Technician program is geared towards preparing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain employment as a phlebotomist and meet the requirements to take the national exam. Becoming a phlebotomy technician is a great opportunity for students to jump into a rewarding profession in the healthcare field.

What you'll learn

Introduction to Phlebotomy

You will learn the theory and practice of phlebotomy, the healthcare setting, an overview of basic anatomy and physiology and other factors involved with this profession.

Special Collections

In addition to learning how to properly perform venipuncture, you will learn other types of collections, such as blood culture and a variety of point-of-care tests. 

Safety and Infection Control

Working with patients and bodily fluids, it is essential that you learn how to operate in a safe manner. Here you will learn about standard precautions set forth by the CDC for prevention and spread of communicable diseases.

Processing and Healing

Specimen handling and labeling needs to be done accurately and with care. You will learn about quality assurance and quality control principles to requisitioning, specimen transport and processing.

Blood Collection Procedures

Performing specimen collection utilizing a variety of methods, techniques and equipment. Emphasis is placed on venipuncture collections and professionalism. In addition, you will learn trouble shoot factors that affect the outcome of successful venipunctures.

Ethics, Legal and Regulations

Here you will learn about various regulations that facilities, cities and states have in place including those set forth by the federal government. It is important to fully understand the rules and regulations in this profession.
