A Medical Billing and Coding Specialist is a significant contributor to the healthcare field. With a keen eye for detail, they can accurately transmit critical data into codes which allows the medical professionals to get reimbursed for their services. Our 5-month online, instructor-led entry level program will train students to properly locate and validate correct diagnostic and procedure codes using the current ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding books. In addition, students will learn how to process health insurance claims along with proper billing and collection services. Our program will prepare students to test for the accredited Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
What you'll learn
Classifying Medical Data
Code and classify medical information while also ensuring the quality and integrity of the data.
Current Procedural Terminology
The guidelines and principles for using the Current Procedural Terminology system for reporting healthcare services and procedures.
Understanding HIPAA
The importance of HIPAA and how it relates to Medical Coding.
Medical Science
Apply medical terminology, anatomy and physiology needed to correctly assign billing codes to patients' diagnosis and procedures.
Process Information
Compile codes, categories, tabulations, and audits, or verify data.Process health insurance claims, reimbursement policies and proper procedures for billing and collections.
Law & Ethics
Gain knowledge of medical, legal, and ethical responsibilities as they apply to coding.
